State’s highest literary award announced

JAMMU, April 26: The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today announced the list of persons who are set to get the state’s highest literary award – best book - for excellence in literature written in each of the nine languages mentioned in schedule six of the state constitution.
Popularly known as best book awards the award carries a cash prize of Rs 51, 000/-, a citation, a shawl and memento. Those who got the coveted award for the year 2010 include Khalid Bashir Ahmad for his book Deeda-e-Aab-e-Rawan. Written in Urdu the book tells the story of Kashmir through ages. One of the peculiarities of the book is that it narrates the tale of Kashmir in the backdrop of Kashmir’s river Jhelum.
Late Bashir Akhter for Anni Gatee Nani Kath. The book which is written in Kashmiri is a collection of Kashmiri short stories mostly focusing on the pain and agony of present day Kashmir.
Prof. Lalit Magotra for Cheten Diyaan Ghaliyaan. This Dogri book portrays the personal life experiences of the author.
Mohamed Mansha Khakee for Nassar Bahar. This Gojri book is about the history of Gujjar’s, their folklore, language and literature.
Ghulam Nabi Khayal for Leaves of Chinar. This English book is mostly a compilation of Khayal’s articles written on different aspects of Kashmir from language to culture to heritage.
Mir Hyder Nadeem for Pahraas. This Pahari book is a research work on the Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahari tribe, their folklore and modes of living.
Baljeet Singh Raina for Sudhish Pachouri Ne Kiha See. This Punjabi book is a collection of short stories. Sudhish Pachouri Ne Kiha See brings to the fore the impact of technology and modernism on the lifestyle of present day man.
Agnishekhar for Jawahar Tunnel. This book is purely a poetic collection which brings to the fore the issue of displacement, literature in exile as also the impact of extremism on human relations and society.
Nawang Gyasto for Losal Ga Pheng. This Ladakhi book is about Ladakhi language and grammar.
