| Heritage trek expedition to start from April 29 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, APRIL-26:-To chalk out the modalities for the smooth conduct of the ensuing National Heritage Trek expedition from April 29, 201 to July 10, 2011 from Panchari forests to Maantalaie, the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Baseer Ahmed Khan convened a meeting of officers of different departments here on Tuesday. The expedition is being organized by the Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI) in collaboration with Directorate of Education, Youth Services and Sports and tourism, J&K Government and Patnitop Development Authority.
State Director Adventure Promotion, YHAI, J&K State Branch, Mr. K.K Gandotra, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer and officer of various departments were present in the meeting.
The meeting was apprised that the trek expedition would pass through some of the most scenic and beautiful areas of Jammu and Kashmir touching unique heritage sites, green meadows and pastures, lofty mountains, thick deodar forests and clear natural water springs. The expedition starting from Panchari forests after passing through Sankri Devta, Nathatop, Patnitop, Sudhmahadev would finally culminate at picturesque Maantalaie. In the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various arrangements pertaining to the successful expedition like boarding, lodging, transportation, security etc.
He called upon the officers to involve maximum participants including students for healthy outdoor activity like trekking so that they could be exposed with the rich heritage of the State.
It was also disclosed in the meeting that as many as 800 students belonging to poor economic background of Government Educational Institutions would be given a chance to join this expedition.
The DDC while speaking on the occasion issued necessary instructions to the District Heads of various Departments to ensure best arrangements well in time at the Udhampur, the base camp of the expedition and enroute pertaining to their departments for the smooth conduct of the expedition.
