After govt assurance, Suraj ends fast unto death protest

JAMMU, April 26:
On the 4th day of his fast unto death protest, Suraj Singh was finally approached by the government, which deputed its representative to visit the place of dharna and negotiate with fasting president of Jammu and Kashmir Blind Council.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jammu Sheetal Nanda visited the spot and had negotiation with fasting student for more than one hour and assured that the demands put forth by Suraj Singh will be met with as early as possible.
Talking to Additional Deputy Commissioner, Suraj Singh said that demands raised by him are all genuine and should be redressed at any cost by government otherwise he is ready to sacrifice his life for blind students to awake the society and blind community. After assurances by ADC Nanda, the protesting Suraj Singh agreed to suspend his agitation for 15 days.
He said that if within the fifteen days his demands are not met with he will not hesitate to start his agitation again and that would be decisive and final struggle to save the rights of the blind students.
Earlier, the students of Polytechnic College, Purkhoo also visited the spot and assured their full support to the fasting Blind student Suraj Singh. They shouted slogans in favour of Suraj Singh and against the government for not taking the matter seriously. They were led by Deepak Raj Pandey, Neha Sharma, Neha Mehra and Ankush Manhas.
Pushvinder Singh (State Vice-President, Young Panthers) who was fully supporting the cause led by Suraj right from the first day, said on the occasion while addressing the gathering that the present government is not only dumb and deaf but also blind who could not see what is happening around them.
Balwant Singh Mankotia (MLA Udhampur and State President Panthers Party) also visited there along with Anita Thakur (State General Secy. JKNPP).
Meanwhile Suraj Singh was shifted to GMC Jammu by Police on the directions of Additional Deputy Commissioner for treatment as he was complaining of severe pain in chest and till evening his condition was not fine.
