4/27/2011 12:03:48 AM
KUNAL SHRIVATSA
JAMMU, April 26:
Asserting that Army is alert and vigilant to thwart nefarious designs of the terrorists, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 25 Infantry Division, Major General Om Prakash today said as many as 42 terrorist camps are still operational in Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“As per intelligence reports, there are about 42 training camps across the LoC….. 250 to 400 terrorists, waiting to infiltrate into Indian Territory, are believed to be lodged in these camps and launching pads.” Maj Gen Prakash told reporters on the sidelines of a function organised to receive 'Aman Jyoti Yatra' that reached Sainik School, Nagrota after covering bordering belts of Rajouri and Poonch districts.
“The troops are on the maximum alert and it will be ensured that terrorists do not succeed in their attempts…. Efforts put in by the army have yielded positive results in countering the activities of the terrorists along LoC, as the infiltration attempts have declined in the last two- three months,” he added.
He further said that troops have broken the backbone of terrorists in Pir Panjal area and the days are not far off when the terrorism would be completely wiped out from J&K.
“Terrorism is on the verge of complete extinction in Pir Panjal area… It is almost finished there… A couple of days back, the alertness and effectiveness displayed by the security forces led to the elimination of two top terrorists and hopefully peace will be restored across Jammu Kashmir in the due course of time,” Army officer said
“We are also getting support of the local public in tightening the noose around terrorist modules active in the area,” he added.Regarding the militants operating in Pir Panjal range, the GOC said that around 200 militants are active in the area.
“About 200 militants, hardcore as well as their supporters, who remain dormant, are active in the area…. We are constantly keeping a strict vigil on their movement,” Maj Gen Prakash said
