Dogras great people, pushing them to the wall would be dangerous | Dogra Ceritificate | | MINCING NO WORDS NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 26: Dogras in the region comprising Jammu province and parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh constitute that social group in the country that could be compared with any other martial race in the world. At the same time, however, they are sober, gentle and innocent. They seldom look down upon other people. They are so simple, large-hearted, accommodating and nationalist to the core. They are ferocious too. They turn ferocious the moment they feel that moves are afoot to cause an affront to their self-respect, erode their identity and drive them away from the national mainstream. It is hardly necessary to elucidate further this point. What they did in 2008 during the Amarnath land agitation days constitutes just one shining example indicating their commitment to their own cause as well as the national cause. However, it would not be out of place to emphasize the fact that the Dogras are very brave people and that their contribution to the Army and the defence of the country has all along been splendid and spectacular. They are born soldiers. They had served the British imperialists for years and helped the Brtish Government secure not only the strategic Northern Frontiers for India but also helped them defend and secure other frontiers. It was in 1887 that the Dogra Regiment was constituted recognizing the ability, competence, utility and contribution of the Dogras. Not only this, subsequently, three more Dogra Regiments were constituted and they were part of the “Bengal Infantry.” Those who know something about the First World War and the level of participation of the Dogras into it, notwithstanding the fact that the British involved India and its Jammu and Kashmir in the war for protecting and promoting its own imperial interests or promoting its own geo-political interests, would at once endorse the fact that the said war had led to the constitution of more Dogra battalions. The post-1962 the defence preparedness in India witnessed some concrete efforts, all aimed at strengthening further the existing Dogra battalions as well as raising more such battalions. Similar has been the story of the Dogra Scouts, all known for their martial spirit and sprit of sacrifice. Those in Kashmir who are opposing the government decision on the issuance of Dogra certificates must look all these facts in the face and desist from pushing the Dogras to the wall whatever they think about them. Not to do so or to continue to spew venom on the Dogras would be only to invite their ire and if it happens, it would be difficult for the critics to withstand the Dogra wrath. But more than that, the opposition in Kashmir to the Dogra certificate would only hasten the process of the state’s disintegration – process which is already on.
