Candidates using official machinery in Panchayat polls : PDP

JAMMU, April 27: People Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that government machinery is being used by certain candidates during the ongoing Panchayat poll elections.
Party which held a meeting of its Kishtwar zone leaders demanded investigation in the entire issue so that necessary action could be taken against the people.
President of the party unit from Kishtwar Shakir Saddiqui alleged that it exposes the tall claims of the government that elections for the local bodies would be free and fair.
“If the elections are being conducted on non-party basis why the MLAs of the ruling parties are distributing old age pensions among the people. Why are they coordinating the campaign of certain candidates in their respective areas”, he said.
He said that in many of the cases, local level leaders of the ruling parties are providing help to the candidates in some areas. “We have received number of complaints but it seems officials are sleeping over the issue or may be they are trying to help some particular people in the ongoing elections”, party has alleged.
He said that if no immediate steps are taken by the officials, we would be forced to launch agitation as people are fed up with the interference of the politicians in the Panchayat polls.
