Court awards life imprisonment to 3 HM ultras for killing 2 women | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 27: Principal sessions judge, Udhampur, A K Sharma today awarded life imprisonment to HM militants -- Mohammad Hussain, Mushtaq Ahmed and Gul Mohammad for allegedly killing two women at Kadwa in 2001. According to police case, on August 2, 2001, an information was received at Basantgarh police station that some unknown militants had killed Arshad Begum and Amina Begum by slitting their throats. During investigation, it was found that the accused had killed the two women as they suspected them to be police informers. They were later arrested and produced in the court. They were formally chargesheeted for the commission of offences under sections 302, 124-A and 458 of RPC and section 7/27 of Arms Act on June 29, 2005. After hearing the two sides, the judge convicted the accused, except Mohammad Abbas, who was declared dead, with the observation that the case did not fall under the category of “rarest of rare cases” and hence extreme death penalty could not be awarded to them. They were, therefore, sentenced under section 302/34 of RPC to undergo rigorous life imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 25,000 each and under section 452/34 of RPC, they were to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and pay a fine of Rs 1,000 each. In default of payment of fine, they would further undergo simple imprisonment for one year. Court further clarified that all the sentences would run concurrently.
