`Our struggle yielding results’

Early Times Report
Jammu, April 27
The Panun Kashmir (PK) President, Dr Agnishekar has sought implementation of the recommendations of Central Committee on displaced pundits. In an exclusive interview with Early Times he accused the government of Jammu Kashmir of sleeping over the recommendations.
The high level committee comprising leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj, Mamta Banerjee, Sachin Pilot and others had urged the state government to take several measures to safeguard the interests of displaced persons. They said the state government seemed in no mood to implement the recommendations of the committee.
He further said, it is Panun Kashmir which started a campaign on sale of properties as distress sale right from 1995 and now, "our struggle has started yielding results...... Our community has been forced to leave the valley by the people who directly or indirectly support gun culture and gun totting militants.”

Elaborating further, he said, “many innocent people were killed and a mass migration took place in 1990. The properties movable and immovable were left back as the innocent Kashmiri pandits ran for safety and dignity. Many people sold out their properties not willingly as they were forced to sell to make both ends meet. But any sale at the time or after migration is termed as distress sale and becomes sales void", he said.

This has been authenticated by parliamentary standing committee on home affairs in its seventh report, he said. Expressing concern over the delay in implementing the recommendations, Panun Kashmir leader said state government has brushed under the carpet the recommendations of committee. The state government was directed to explore possibility of declaring all properties, movable and immovable, sold by displaced persons ( Kashmiri pandits ) after 1989- 1990 as distress sale and restore possession of properties back to the Kashmiri pandits. He added that govt was further asked to impose blanket ban on the acquisition of the properties of Kashmiri pandits and also to ensure implementation of J&K migrant immovable property ( preservation, Protection and Restraint on distressed sale ) Act, 1997 in letter and spirit.
