| Thousands stranded as National Highway blocked | | | Jammu, Nov 18 More than one thousand vehicles, including passenger vehicles, were stranded on Jammu-Srinagar highway, which was blocked near Banihal area of Doda district due to the landslides caused by heavy rainfall over the last three days. Superintendent of Police (Traffic) National Highway SK Sharma said that the vehicular traffic on the highway was disrupted, this morning, following the landslides and shooting stones at Gangroo, Ramsoo and Panthihal areas of Ramban and Banihal. The heavy rains, which started on Friday evening, continue to lash the mountainous areas along the highway, he told News Agency of Kashmir, adding that the men and machinery was pressed into service to restore the traffic movement. Though most of the passenger vehicles were not allowed to move ahead from Nagrota in Jammu, sources said that about one thousand vehicles were stranded along the highway at various places. “There are 45 light motor vehicles, 13 passenger buses, 450 trucks stranded at Ramban, while at Udhampur there were 250 trucks and 60 light motor vehicles beside other vehicles at Banihal and Qazigund areas”, sources said. The local administration was making the arrangements for the stranded places at various places, they added.
