Guv for setting up res schools for physically challenged children | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, APRIL 28: Emphasizing the need to establish residential educational institutions for the education and training of physically challenged children, the Governor N N Vohra said such initiatives would help in making them self-reliant. In this context, he urged the NGOs operating in the State to maximize their initiatives, alongside the State Government coming forward in a meaningful way. The Governor was interacting with members of the Governing Body, Principal and Teachers, and a group of 15 students of the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Jammu, who called on him at Raj Bhavan. The Governor observed that there is also need for introducing Braille system in identified schools to facilitate the education of visually impaired children in the State. The Governor asked the Governing Body of the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, who are running a school for the speech and hearing impaired children at Shahidi Chowk, Jammu, to formulate a project for setting up a residential school and assured to support such an initiative. He enquired from the management, Principal of the School and the accompanying Teachers about the special techniques adopted for imparting education to these children and the nature of facilities available in the School. The Governor was informed that, presently, 80 boys and girls from various parts of the State are receiving education in this School from the 1st to the 10th class. For assisting this organization for carrying on the good work being done by it, the Governor announced a support of Rs. one lakh to the J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra. He presented gifts to the children and wished them a bright future ahead. Interacting with the Governor in their sign language they thanked him for the gifts.
