Desilting of canals delayed, farmers in jeopardy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, April 28: The farmers of Jammu have threatened that they will come on roads if the work of desilting of canals would not started soon. This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Marh Assembly Constituency Sukhnandan Kumar while expressing his grave concern over the delay in desilting process of Ranbir canal and its distributaries. Sukhnandan Kumar said that it is the sowing season of vegetables and in next few days farmers will be sowing seeds of rice and the process of desilting of canals has not been undertaken as a result of which the helpless farmers have been left at the mercy of God. He said that these days are very important for the farmers as their survival depends upon the crops and the delay in timely desilting of canals has resulted in non-availability of water for irrigation which will obviously harm their crops. Sukhnandan said that the government has separate departments and funds to the tune of crores of rupees for the desiltation but still this work has not been taken up. He declared that the farmers of Jammu have decided to come on roads if government fails to mitigate their genuine problemat the earliest .
