NPSU alleges Panchayat polls are farce | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, April 28: National Panther Students Union (NPSU) has alleged that the ongoing Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir are proving to be totally farce, as political parties are indirectly supporting the candidates in some areas. Addressing a press conference, provincial president of union, Partap Singh Jamwal said that elections were to be conducted on non-party basis but respective MLAs are at places using their influence in supporting a particular candidate. Jamwal alleged that even the government employees are being used as campaigning agents by the candidates with respective district administration watching as mute spectator. He alleged that in Birnu Panchayat, block Ghordi in Udhampur district three Gazetted employees were openly supporting a candidate but no action was taken against them, despite number of complaints lodged against them. Jamwal also alleged that in Kashmir province, the ruling NC-Congress alliance has openly used the official machinery. Those who were present on the occasion included Rawat Singh Manhas, Nitin Bakshi, Sanjay Sharma, Atul Soodan, Sunil Sharma and Pardeep Singh Manhas.
