| FOR ISLAMIC COUNTRIES KASHMIR IS A BILATERAL ISSUE : NIRMAL SINGH | | | Jammu, Nov 18 Former President of the state Unit of Bharatiya Janta Party Dr Nirmal Singh on Saturday said that Islamic countries in the world have started realizing that Kashmir is a bilateral issue. Islamic countries also favour that both India and Pakistan should sit across table to resolve the issue as no military solution is possible. Returning after attending a PUGWASH conference in Egypt,Dr Singh told media men in Jammu, when Kashmir centric panel discussion was going on during the conference in Egypt not many representatives of Islamic countries were present. In contrast, the response was praiseworthy when Israel-Palestine issue was hotly debated. He said, though parallels cannot be drawn between the two different issues but during informal discussion on the subject with various representatives panelists observed that time has come now where both India and Pakistan should amicably settle the issue on their own as it a bilateral issue. Dr Singh said, another significant change which was witnessed during the conference was that other countries have started looking at Kashmir issue from Indians point of view. Earlier, the response was different but this time Indias’ viewpoint on Kashmir was widely heard and acknowledged by representatives during the conference. He said with time people have also realized that unless aspirations of all three regions namely Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh were given due weightage Kashmir issue will remain unresolved. Talking about stand of their own party former state BJP chief said speaking on the Kashmir issue I made it clear that response of Pakistan has not been inspiring or promising as regards ongoing peace process. He said cross border terrorism continues besides terrorist related incidents in Kashmir,Delhi,Mumbai,Malegaon, Banglore, Varanasi and Ayodhya are other instances .He said centre should not adopt soft policy while tackling terrorism.Response of our country should be firm, he added. He said during the conference I also opposed demand of self-rule and joint management of Jammu and Kashmir besides turning down suggestion of demilitarizationand division of state of Jammu and Kashmir in to seven different zones. He said a vast majority of the people of the state are against self-rule. He said, in my opinion a holistic approach is needed to address the issue .We cannot overlook what is happening in POK and Gilgit Baltistan,he elaborated. The ball obviously is in the court of Pakistan and those who are using terror as a political weapon to achieve their goal. |
