J&K wrestlers need exposure: Dushyant | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 28: Newly elected president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and general secretary of the J&K Wrestling Association, Dushyant Sharma today laid emphasis on exposure to the state wrestlers to achieve desired results. Highlighting the plight of those practicing the traditional game back home, this former top former wrestler of the state stressed for improved infrastructure for the game. “By competing in dangals, held mostly on mud in different parts of the state, would not help achieve the results. What these talented wrestlers need is exposure at the national level with improved infrastructure at the district level,” said Dushyant Sharma while interacting with media here this afternoon. Being a favourite sport in the rural belts of J&K, wrestling need patronage from the government by means way of better playing conditions and support. Elected president of the Federation on April 15 by securing 41 out of 72 polled votes, Dushyant also listed his priorities at the national level. He said, “2012 Olympics is the next target of the Federation and to win gold this time, promising wrestlers are working hard to achieve the goal.” He further said that to promote the game in a professional manner, the Federation has decided to conduct Indian Premier League (IPL) type competition at the national level. “To begin with, we have identified six states for IPL type competition with a sole aim to give the otherwise rural game an urban look,” disclosed Dushyant, who is Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Railways at Jammu.
