When a Congman was arrested in New Delhi For planning attack on Palam Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 28: He dared the militants and joined Congress. He then defied an officer of Military Intelligence who wanted him to work for him. This time he was trapped. The Congress did not help him On June 14, 2005, when, Ghulam Mohidin Dar and his friend visited Delhi to launch a new brand of Nun Chai (Salt tea), the police arrested them from their hotel room. Later they were shifted to Tihar Jail. The woeful tale did not end here. On July 2, the police presented them before media stating that the duo was planning to attack Palam Airport. “The duo has been arrested after an encounter on Delhi-Gurgaon road”, the police claimed. Recovery of a map was also claimed from their possession. Several RTI applications, however, helped the duo. In his final remarks, Judge Virender Bhatt remarked that the accused “are innocent and are honourably acquitted”. He directed the police to lodge a case against the policemen for the alleged fake encounter. The learned judge held “The accused have been languishing in jail for no fault of theirs…. At the behest of Major Saroi, whose attempts to persuade Dar to work for him in getting militants to surrender to earn undue honours or awards were spurned by him (Dar). In today’s aspirational world of glitter, fine dining and mall culture, only money and material matter. Values such as service to the nation, integrity and honesty are becoming here.” The police have preferred an appeal against the order. The appeal has been fixed for hearing on May 5. Dar is not interested in politics now. According to him, he has been approached by a number of political parties. “I just want to remain aloof. When I was in trouble, even the Congress did not help me. They thought I was a terrorist”, he said. Shah added, “There were three major charges against us. The first was of an encounter. The second was theft of car which the police said we were using to flee. The third was recovery of arms and ammunition.” Using the RTI, Dar and Shah demanded the log book of the vehicles of the special cell. “First they denied information. We sought the intervention of Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah. The log details of vehicles that police claimed were used on the encounter day, revealed that it had only run 14 Km on that day,” said Shah.
