Omar led regime legalizing corrupt practices in State : PDP
4/29/2011 9:39:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, April 29:
Demanding a high level probe into the infamous Cash for Vote scam in which coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah allegedly purchased BJP MLAs to ensure victory of its candidates in the Legislative Council elections, activists of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today organized a massive demonstration in the city. The demonstration, which started from Rani Park Jammu passed through the different localities of old city before turned into a rally near Parade.
PDP activists from different parts of Jammu participated in the demonstration and shouted slogans against State Government for legalizing corruption in the State.
Addressing the rally at Parade, PDP leaders attacked coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah for its failure to keep a check on corruption in the State.
They said since formation of this regime corruption has been legalized because government has doled out license to its leaders and workers to indulge into corrupt practices.
While pointing towards recent Cash for Vote Scam, PDP leaders said that this incident is a glaring example of corruption at higher level. They regretted that instead of checking corruption at lower level, those who are at the helm of the affairs are themselves indulged in such corrupt practices.
Reminding Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of his statement in which he had stated that he would resign if his involvement in the Cash for Vote scam was proved, PDP leaders said that decision of BJP leadership to suspend its seven MLAs in this case is an authentication some deal in this scam.
Coming down heavily on State Government for adopting casual approach towards not strengthening the institutions to curb corruption, they said that during the last two year no step has been taken to bring transparency and accountability in the administration.
PDP activists made it clear that they would not remain as mute spectator to the corrupt practices of the coalition regime headed by National Conference. They said that being the principal opposition party PDP has decided to take the corruption issue among the masses to expose misdeeds of this regime which has crossed all limits of corruption.
PDP vice president Trilok Singh Bajwa, general secretary Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin and others addressed the rally.
