S&T dept keen to promote renewable energy benefits across state | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, April 29: The Science & Technology Department presented Annual Report 2010-11 which mainly include the activities taken for promotion of Renewable Energy in the J&K State. The Additional Secretary Science & Technology giving details on overall activities of the Department is published first time since the inception of the Department in 1986. The Science & Technology Department in neutralization of New & Renewable sources of energy for needs of the people with focus on un-electrified villages/hamlets and other far-flung areas besides harnessing potential of Science & Technology as instruments social economic change. Additional Secretary S & T said that brief compendium will be beneficial to general masses, academicians, researchers and field workers in the area of Science & Technology. The main aim to highlight the annual report is to make aware the general public about the various schemes and activities being implemented by the Science & Technology Department. Additional Secretary disclosed that J&K is region with immense potential for renewable energy projects. At present, the state is fairly untapped in terms of energy utilization and thus venturing into this region would definitely prove to be profitable. The J&K Government has been supportive and encouraged the setting up of power projects in the state recently. The State Science & Technology Council has been serving as an instrument for the economic development through the application of scientific knowledge and technology.
