Dengue kills at least 44 people in Pakistan
11/18/2006 11:14:02 PM

Islamabad, Nov 18

Dengue fever has killed 44 people in Pakistan and forced nearly 5,000 to be hospitalised.
According to the health ministry, 4,866 people with symptoms similar to dengue fever have been admitted to hospitals across the country.
And at least 1,724 of them have tested positive for the virus.
Forty-three of the fatalities were reported in Sindh province and one in the North West Frontier province.
Minister for Health Muhammad Nasir Khan said controlling the spread of the disease had become a problem because those affected with the virus were undergoing self-treatment instead of approaching hospitals.
