SVO presents challan in misappropriation of food grains | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 29: The state vigilance organization today presented challan against Narinder Singh, then Incharge assistant director CAPD circle-III, Baldev Singh, then area Inspector CAPD circle-III and ratio dealer Sumeet Behal under section 120-B of RPC read with sections 5(1) (d) and 5(2) of PC Act, 2006, in the court of special judge anti-corruption, Jammu. According to the challan, verification was conducted into the allegations of fraudulent distribution of government ration the beneficiaries under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) schemes. It was alleged that records were manipulated by CAPD officials during 2004-2005. During verification, it was found that CAPD established new ration depot No 297 at Nai Basti where 636 families earlier drawing ration from depot Nos 130 and 264 situated at Shastri Nagar and Nai Basti were merged with the new depot for the purpose of drawing ration. During investigation conducted by SVO SP Rashmi Wazir, it was found that from February 2004 to September 2006, 1,820 qtls of BPL rice, 1,823 qtls of atta and 886 qtls of AAY Rice had been issued by the CAPD assistant director to ration depot No 297. The investigation revealed that no ration had not been drawn by the consumers as they were not provided any ration card. The consumers shown attached with ration depot NO 297 were already drawing ration from other ration depots under APL category who continued to draw ration till the registration of FIR and it was found that a loss of Rs 12 lakh was caused by the accused to the state exchequer.
