‘Army not required in Srinagar’ | Of CM and his `diplomacies’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr 29 (KNS): The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has said that there wasn’t only need of Cricket diplomacy, but hockey diplomacy, music diplomacy and above all people to people contact to forge close ties with Pakistan. Omar said in an interview with News 24 channel that China factor in Kashmir deserve serious view, though things were not alarming and China won’t invade India. “Nevertheless, China’s growing presence across Ladakh border as well as in POK can not be ignored,” he said. Replying to a question whether he thinks that growing presence of China across Ladakh and PaK was serious, he said, “It deserves serious view. I know that the Centre government is aware of China's activities in POK. They are building roads and other key infrastructure projects. They are of strategic importance. As far as Ladakh is concerned, there are still many places where the border demarcation has not done.” To a question on supporting the cause of Anna Hazara while some of him own ministers were under cloud due to their alleged involvement in corruption cases, he said, “Let it be proved that any colleague of mine is involved in any scam. I will not spare him. I’ll show him the door.” Omar Abdullah was evasive when he was asked, “Does he follow his grand father (Sheikh Abdullah) or his father in governance?” At the outset, he tried to avoid the question. But, when he was prodded, he said, “I follow the ideology of Sheikh saheb more than anybody.”Omar lost his cool when he was told that his political bete-noire Mehbooba Mufti called him “Delhi's boy.” “It is below my dignity to react what she feels about me. I do not want to name her come what may,” he said Omar maintained that his decision to prevent BJP of unfurling of tricolor at the Lal Chowk on Independence day was correct. “They did not think of unfurling the national flag for 20 years and then they suddenly decided to unfurl the flag. I was inviting them to join the Independence day function at the Bakshi stadium, but they did not accept my invite.” Replying to a direct question in respect of withdrawal of Army from Kashmir, Omer said, “I still feel that Army is not required at many places of the state including Srinagar. Hence, it should be removed from there. At the same time, I also know that Army presence is required at some places, there it should remain and do the job.” To a question regarding stone-pelting incidents that rocked the state in 2010, Omar said, he cannot be held responsible for the stone-pelting incidents and the violence that gripped the valley in 2010. “The entire issue of stone pelting did not start last year. But it began in 2008 before the assembly elections.” Asked whether he had any plan to shift to national politics, he replied in negative. “No ways I’m happy here. Farooq saheb is there. I have no plans to shift to Delhi.”The youngest chief minister of the country feels that he is no longer young. “I have grown old. I am graying. I am absolutely changed man since my stint in the Vajpayee ji led NDA government,” Omar concluded
