EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAMBAN, April 30:
Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, today, took a high-level meeting of senior police officers of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban (DKR) districts and discussed with them several issues related to internal security in the State.
DIG DKR, Manish Sinha, and SPs of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts, besides several other police officers attended the meeting.
In a detailed power-point presentation, the DIG gave an overview of the functioning of the Police Department. He also briefed the Minister about the current law-and-order situation and civic action programmes initiated in the erstwhile Doda district.
The Minister was informed that the police department has started a comprehensive training programme of its personnel in rapid action and use of non-lethal means.
Later, in his address, the Minister expressed satisfaction over the performance and overall functioning of the police force in the Range. He, however, expressed concern over frequent road accidents that occur on Ramban-Batote and Doda-Batote-Kishtwar roads on the two National Highways.
“I want effective monitoring of the two NHs by the traffic personnel. Vehicles which are in poor condition and not fit to ply should be immediately seized and their licenses cancelled. This will act as a deterrent for other defaulters and bring down high frequency rate of road mishaps that has resulted in heavy loss of precious human lives in the past two years,” he added.
The Minister asked the police to closely work with the magistracy so that any emerging untoward situation is immediately defused. He said he will also take up the issue of upgrdation of certain police posts in the Range as full-fledged police stations. “I am aware of shortage of manpower in our police force, especially in manning the heavy rush of vehicles on the National Highway. In the coming few days, we will discuss the issue and see how we can overcome shortage of police personnel,” the Minister said, adding he will also focus on personnel management so that bottlenecks in their promotions are immediately removed.
