Suspended BJP MLAs organize parallel political activities | Consolidation support base separately…..? | | Early Times Report Jammu, April 30: Post cross voting shocks even as the state unit of BJP has put its routine political activities on fast track, the dissident camp of 7 suspended MLAs too have engaged themselves in what can be seen as the parallel activities, undeterred about the implications and political fallout in terms of what looks like complete defiance of the party leadership. Over two weeks on, though the dust has settled on the cross voting controversy the 7 MLAs who were identified to have indulged in the act are not behaving as the ‘guilty’ lot. Instead, losing no time they too have embarked upon in the programmes in their own constituencies and areas apparently to sense the mood of supporters and guage the ground situation. Sources say even though the high command came out with what is being projected as ‘unprecedented’ step in such matters taken ever by any party, the delay in follow up action by the disciplinary committee in the matter is actually causing more harm to the party at the ground level and middle rung cadres, notwithstanding the fact that local leadership along with ‘prominent’ national leaders has pushed itself into damage control mode. It is no secret that these MLAs did not shy away from defying the High command decision. A day after they paraded in front of the national president Nitin Gadkari, two of them boldly addressed media and questioned criteria adopted by high command in identifying the guilty members. Gradually, more members including veteran leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta came out openly and raised the same question mark while pleading innocent in the whole matter. Now what appears to have emboldened the suspended MLAs is apparent lenient attitude of the high command in taking follow up measures in the matter, sources said adding that this has come as something unexpected for them that they have to present their explanation in front of the disciplinary committee. All these moves are the political gimmicks in any party. What is apparently more damaging for the party is the fact the suspended MLAs instead of feeling remorseful are more busy than ever in political activities in their respective constituencies. Some of these MLAs are organizing independent programmes and meetings without bothering to have any senior party leader in attendance . Many such meetings have been held in different parts without even seeking permission or informing the state president, said the sources. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta for the last few days along with some more MLAs in attendance has organized a series of meetings in different areas. Sources said the MLAs are utilizing this period of ‘delay’ from the disciplinary committee in consolidating their support base in own areas. The activities close to the stunning developments related to the cross voting controversy are basically aimed at judging the response from amongst their supporters and identifying their real loyalists so that they can nurture and consolidate that group in due course of time, party sources explained. The MLAs who have now projected themselves as a dissident group, though not formally, are making all out efforts in a way to run what can be seen as parallel political shows in many areas. The MLAs are now required to send in their replies by May 7. This period is being conveniently utilized by the MLAs in consolidating their ground position for future in the sense that they gearing up for any ‘action’ in store for them by the high command, their activities independent of the local leadership is not only demoralizing the party cadres but in many areas it has resulted in open infighting between what on ground has emerged as two faction scene –staunch loyalists of suspended MLAs and actual party cadres.
