Engineering aspirants face tough luck scorchinh heat before cracking AIEEE paper | AFMC Exam also postponed by 2 hr | | Mishu Gupta EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 1: Several hundred students who appeared in the All India Engineering entrance examination faced mental agony and several other hardships just before the start of the prestigious examination here on Sunday. The examination is held every year to select meritorious students for the National Institute of Technology and other allied engineering colleges.According to official sources, minutes before the start of the AIEEE exam a flash message about the leakage of exam papers in Uttar Pradesh spread panic among the students and the supervisory staff. The spread of information was so swift that in many cases the supervisors failed to handle the situation inside various examination centres leading to tense moments. Large number of parents waiting outside the exam centres were also taken aback when news spread like wild fire that the AIEEE examination papers have been leaked and the authorities have decided to postpone the exam. The news channels flashed the news and added to the confusion. But before the students could digest the shock they were informed that the examination would be conducted after a gap of three hours and would start at 12.00 p.m, after a gap of three hours from the previous schedule. This announcement further created unrest among large number of students especially those who had traveled from far off places to appear for the test. Rising mercury levels and absence of adequate canteen facilities at various examination centres added to the miseries of the students as they were left exhausted and stranded in the direct heat for three hours ahead of appearing for the test. Outside the exam centre theparents were fuming with anger as their children reported lack ofwater and canteen facilities inside the exam centre and complained of exhaustion. It is pertinent to mention here that over 12 lakh students across the appear for the AIEEE. The paper was conducted in two halves over the day. While the first paper was for bachelor of engineering (B.E.) aspirants, the second paper was for students wanting to pursue a bachelor of architecture (B.Arch) course.As per the original schedule, the first paper was to begin at 9.30 a.m. and the second at 2 p.m. The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE), the nodal agency for conducting the exam, postponed the first part to 12.30 p.m. and the second part to 4.00 p.m. Following the delay, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) entrance exam, that was also scheduled for Sunday at 2.30 p.m., was shifted to 4.30 p.m.The AIEEE entrance exam was delayed after the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force informed the CBSE about a question paper leak in the state, he said.
