Jatowal XI wins opening tie in Samba tourney | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 01: Beating Barjani Cricket Club by 54 runs, Jatowal XI won the inaugural match of the District Samba Cricket Tournament being organised under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Stadium (JKCA) at General Baj Singh Stadium, Barori in Samba today. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Jatowal Club set a target of 201 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 30 overs. Balbir was top scorer with 54 runs while Rohny contributed 28-ball 36 runs to the total. From Barjani Club, Balwinder claimed two wickets, followed by Rafiq and Sanjay, who shared apiece each. Later, Barjani cold not chase the total and the whole side bowled out for 146 runs in 25 overs. Farooq played fine innings of 33-ball 46 runs while Sanjay contributed unbeaten 19. Ranjeet was most successful bowler from Jatomal with three wickets. Balbir claimed two for 24 in six overs. For his all-round performance, Balbir was declared man of the match. Today’s match was officiated by Pawandeep Singh and Dharmvir Singh while Zorawar Singh was scorer. Earlier, working president of the Association, Mohd Aslam Goni declared open the tournament in a well attended function. He was accompanied by chairman, Ramesh Mahajan, Ashok Singh and vice-chairman of JKCA Jammu wing. On the arrival at the venue, the JKCA office bearers were received by convenor of the Samba District Committee, international cricketer, Surinder Singh Bagal. A host of other prominent people of the district, Vijay Singh, Major Govind Singh, Jagjit Singh, Gulam Nabi Char as also members of the Committee, Vivekanand, Shiv Raj Sambyal, Radhysham, Balbir Singh, Vijay Gupta and Birbal Singh.
FIXTURE: Birpur Cricket Club shall take on Gurah Salathia at 7.30 am tomorrow.
