| PIL for construction of Sarai in GMC Jammu | | | Jammu, Nov 18 The Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the State Government to file the fresh status report about the construction of a sarai at Government Medical College here. This direction was passed by the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice B A Khan and Justice J P Singh in a Public Interest Litigation filed by Mr. Satya Pal Saraf, Organizer, Viklang Chhatra Trust Akhnoor seeking directions to State of J&K through the Chief Secretary, Commissioner/Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, Indian Red-Cross Society Jammu Region through its Secretary and Principal GMC Jammu for construction of a Sarai in the Medical College Complex Jammu, to provide accommodation for the attendants of the patients with further directions to the respondents to maintain the proper hygiene in the Hospital. The Division Bench after hearing Advocate Sunil Sethi appearing for the PIL and Dy AG Mrs. Shaista Hakeem appearing for the State, held that the status report filed on behalf of Principal GMC, Jammu, indicates that pursuant to instructions of the Planning Department, demand has been reflected under works statement for the draft annual plan 2006-07 for the provision of Rs 50 lakh for construction of Sarai and the matter was under active consideration of the Government. DB directed the registry to list this PIL on December 19, 2006 and directed Counsel appearing for the state to file a fresh status report of the Government through Planning Department.
