EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, May 01: An employee of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Ranjeet Singh clinched the championship trophy outplaying Dr Pawan Kumar of PHC Basantgarh in straight frames (11-06, 11-07, 11-09) in the final of 2nd Basantgarh Open Table Tennis Championship held at Community Hall, Basantgarh. Third place went to Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Dudu Basantgarh, Amit Sharma, who beat Rakesh Kharka in a neck to neck contest that lasted for full five frames. The score: 09-11, 11-06, 06-11, 11-09, 11-07) In this championship, the participants were drawn from different government, public sector, private as well locals took part. The players’ profiles included students, professionals, government and private sector employees. This rarest sports event at the far flung area of district Udhampur was sponsored by Airtel. In the final and prize distribution function, SDM, Amit Sharma, brain behind this championship, was chief guest. He gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up. He was accompanied by Sarpanch of Basantgarh, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat as also YR Karlopia, Gian Chand, Moulvi Mushtaq, CRPF Platoon Commander, Mohd Firoz, Mustafa Kamal, Kewal Kumar, Mohd Saddiq, Dr Zahoor and Master Swarn.
