JKAACL observes death anniversary of Sarwanand Kaul | | | EARLY TIMES Jammu, May 1:- The 21st death anniversary of veteran Kashmiri poet and well known Freedom Fighter, Sarwanand Kaul "Premi" is being observed today. At a function, held in Jammu, organized by J&K Academy of Art Culture & Languages in its K. L Sehgal Hall today, a literary meet was organized where in the eminent Poets and critics read out there papers, highlighting his contribution in Kashmiri Language and Literature and promoted communal amity thorough his writings. Gh. Nabi Atash read out an exhaustive paper on the Literary contributions of Great Premi and recalled his great contribution in the field of social work also. Dr. R. L. Bhat in his paper dealt with his Social and Literary contributions and threw light on the dedication of his life to the welfare of common people irrespective of caste, colour, creed or religion. Light was shed on his pioneering role during Freedom Struggle-. Author of dozens of books, Sarwanand Kaul translated Rabindra Nath Tagore's world famous Gitanjali into Kashmiri and Bhagved Gita into Urdu. Speakers recalled his contribution to Kashmiri Language and Literature and also lauded the role of Premi in "Cultural and Literary renaissance of Modern Kashmir". Many speakers highlighted the social, cultural and literary works of Premi and paid rich tributes for his long service for social upliftment, communal amity and brotherhood. It was also recalled that many of his works focused on the need for promoting and preserving age old bonds of brotherhood among different communities in the country. Similar function was also held in Delhi, where befitting tributes were paid to Late Premi.
