| Panchayti elections will empower peole at grass root levels | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Doda May 1: Abdul Majid Wani, the senior Congress Party leader and MLA Doda, said that the government is committed for conduct of Panchayat Elections in J&K State in order to empower people up-to then grass root level. These elections are being conducted in the most transparent manner, free from any type of coercion or allurement to the voters. Praising the State Election authorities, Wani said a close vigil has been ensured to prevent public functionaries holding any type of position of profit. It becomes prime duty of every citizen of the state to avoid violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
In few areas like Mangota in Doda Tehsil, reports are dropping in regarding participation of few Government ration dealers in Panchayat Elections. The same, if true, shall be taken seriously by the government. No government ration dealer is allowed to fight the Panchayat Election as they are, in many cases, involved in giving credit to the poor villagers and can influence their opinion.
Wani expressed hope that if these reports are true, the state election authorities shall take strict action and even can declare any such election as null and void. Wani said that the people, especially, living in far away areas are required to be more careful; any violation of the Model Code of Conduct should be immediately brought into the notice of the District Election Authorities.
