Varinder guides NCC Gurah Slathia to 4-wkt win | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 02: Superb all round performance from Varinder today helped NCC Gurah Slathia register an impressive six-wicket win over Birpur Cricket Club (BCC) to move into the next round of District Samba Cricket Tournament underway at General Baj Singh Stadium, Barori in Samba. Batting first, after winning the toss, BCC bowled out for 170 runs in 25 overs of the 30 overs game, which, in reply, NCC chased in just 17.4 overs making 172 runs for the loss of six wickets. Atul was top scorer with 55-ball 67 runs including two sixes and ten boundaries while Amit contributed 20-ball 22. From NCC, Ram was most successful bowler with four for 30 in six overs, followed by Vicky and Varinder, who shared two wickets each. Batting second, sailing on brilliant knock from Varinder and quick-fire innings from Kapil, NCC attained the goal with four wickets in hand that too sparing 12.2 overs of their innings. While Varinder contributed 46-ball 59 runs studded with seven boundaries and two sixes, Kapil added 10-ball 24 runs with the help of six hits to the fence. Shami was other main contributor with 20-ball 31 runs. Atul and Amit claimed two wickets each from Birpur Club. For his all-round performance, Varinder was obvious choice for man of the match title. In today’s match, Surjit Singh and Sunny acted as umpires while Vinay was scorer.
