| Political intervention in Panchayat elections condemned | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 2: State General Secretary J&K Milchar Front. Kuldeep Kumar Rao said that the general public is surprised and confused to see that the declared policy of the government that the present panchayat elections will be on non-party basis is now being open thrown to the winds as everywhere congress and NC are not only fielding their candidates but also canvassing in their favour.
He alleged that this canvassing is mostly being done by M.L.A's, M.L.C's and Ministers. Moreover district administration is also exerting their influence & pressure on the electors for favouring the candidates of the ruling alliance.
Quoting an example, he said that the case of one Sarpanch election of Birnu-Ram Nagar, Udhampur is a glaring example of this phenomenon where an elected Sarpanch Prem Nath was declared as defeated and one: Hans Raj maternal uncle of M.L.A Ram Nagar was fraudulently declared as elected.
He further said that one more example is of Joura Kalan Panchayat where no new voters of two wards entered by the secretary Panchayat (Block Thathri, District Dada) while entries of new voters of all other panchayats were made by him. This was a deliberate negligence aimed at benefiting certain vested interests.
He urged the CM and the Chief Electoral Officer to initiate inquiry in these cases of misconduct & bungling by those people who were expected to be impartial and fair.
