BJP divided over punishment to erring MLAs | Cross voting issue | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 2:- Majority of BJP leaders are in favour of stern action against the MLAs who indulged in cross voting during the recently concluded Legislative Council elections. The central disciplinary committee, it may be mentioned, has been asked to prescribe punishment The senior party leaders believe that the cross voting had damaged the image of the party beyond repair. A leader preferring anonymity said the cross voting became serious because the MLAs defied the party whip. Surprisingly the erring MLAs did not vote for the party candidate. "It is a major political crime and those who committed the crime need to be punished,"he said. “The seven MLAs cannot take party for a ride. The strength of BJP does not lie in their hands”, they maintain. However, others suggest mild punishment like suspension for a few months. "Not beyond that,"they said adding that any expulsion could cause major erosion in the party. The leadership is also concerned about the erosion the party has suffered during the past few years. They said the party had regained its strength after it played a key role in the agitation against revocation of land diversion order in favour of Amarnath Shrine Board in 2008. Omar questions Pak in Osama killingSrinagar:Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised questions over the role of Pakistan and its agencies in tracking down of world's most wanted terrorist Osama Bin Laden, who was killed in a CIA operation outside the Pakistani capital yesterday. "Did Pakistan give up OBL (Osama bin Laden) or did they get caught out? (a) 25 million dollar question," he wrote on the micro-blogging site twitter.com. "Well, perhaps the fact that this couldn't have happened without the active involvement of Pakistan/ISI will help cool things," he said. As the social networking sites were abuzz with discussion over Laden's end, the Chief Minister also chipped in with his opinion. "OBL 'buried at sea'. The conspiracy theorists couldn't have asked for a better start. Bring it on now!", he quipped. Responding to comments of twitterati he follows, Omar said Prince William and Kate Middleton, who got married last weekend, need to thank US President Barack Obama for not messing the wedding. "Will & Kate need to thank Obama for not messing the wedding. He hadn't been invited & could have really rained on their parade. How convenient that this (killing of Laden) didn't clash with 2 days of royal wedding coverage, that would have been a disaster," he said in another tweet
