BJP suspends Anil Gupta, serves show cause notice to him | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 2: BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas has suspended the Party vice president Anil Gupta from the Party and also issued a show cause notice to him asking him why to explain his action within week's time. Gupta's suspension order from the party was issued by its state chief on the instance of party high command in New Delhi who were constantly pressing for disciplinary action against the BJP vice president in the wake of cross voting by seven party MLAs including the Leader of BJP Legislative Party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta who happens to be the father of Anil Gupta. Though BJP High Command had issued directives to its state party president soon after it suspended seven MLAs from the party for cross voting in Legislative Council elections of April 13, Manhas was buying time. However after the suspebnded group of MLAs intensified their activities and took a banner of revolt against the BJP High Command, it was constrained to exert pressure on Manhas to take disciplinary action against Anil Gupta also. Consequent upon the fresh directives by Party High Command Manhas was left with no alternative but to serve the show cause notice to Gupta besides placing him under suspension. The sources said that BJP High Command which had suspended seven of its MLAs from the Party has taken the serious exception to the outbursts of these MLAs who openly revolted the party decision later. The Party which had served a show cause notice to its suspended MLAs asking them to submit reply by May 7 before Party's Disciplinary Committee is going to take final decision on their fate by May 10. Meanwhile the suspended MLAs are up in arms against the party decision and in the event of their termination from the basic membership of the Party they will not hesitate in constituting a separate political group in seeking their pound of flesh. Sources said their is every possibility that the suspended group will frame a regional party to make a bargaining in the formation of the Government or by extending support it. Even the group will gain lot of importance in the event of fall of present coalition Government headed by Omar Abdullah. Sources said that in that event of fall of Omar Abdullah Government in view of straining relations between PCC chief and NC, the future of coalition is uncertain in the state and in case the Congress pulls out of present coalition rendering the Omar Abdullah Government into minority the seven suspended MLAs can play a key role in the formation of next Government in the state by aligning with that faction which can play a formidable role in Government formation, sources added. However the suspended MLAs have kept the cards close to their chest and have maintained a studied silence to avoid any public reaction for the time being. Meanwhile the party sources said in the event the seven suspended MLAs fail to reply the show cause notice by May 7, Party disciplinary Committee will be constrained to take disciplinary action against them in its meeting on May 10. |
