Geelani calls Osama a 'martyr of Islam' | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 2: Extolling Osama bin Laden as someone who achieved 'martyrdom' while defending Muslims and fighting against the US oppression in Afghanistan, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today said that the slain Al-Qaeda supremo was a symbol of resistance against the United States of America. "Osama has been martyred while defending Muslims. He was symbol of resistance against US oppression. But his martyrdom won't end resistance against the US in Afghanistan and elsewhere in Muslim world," Geelani told KNS. Reacting to US President, Barrack Obama's statement that they weren't enemies of Muslims or Islam, Geelani said, "We have no animosity with the people of US. But I've no hesitation in saying that the policies of US are against Muslim ummah. We condemned 9/11 attacks as they were terrorist acts. But since then, US have massacred lakhs of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and now Libya." The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that Iraq was attacked on pretext of possessing weapons of mass destruction. "But even the US agencies later confirmed that there were no WMDs in Iraq. Arvan Reddy, a British lady who had been taken hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan some years back after her release revealed in her book that almost 10 lakh people were killed in Iraq since 2003 invasion while many more were forced to leave their homes. It is worst form of state terrorism," he said. Geelani alleged that US was carrying out state terrorism in Muslim world. "In the name of so called peace, Muslims are being massacred by NATO troops," he said. The Hurriyat chairman also alleged that India was carrying 'state terrorism' in Kashmir. While cautiously reacting to the killing of Osama, senior Hurriyat (M) leader, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat said, "We condemn terrorism in any form whether it is being done by India, Pak, US or any group." "Conflicts lead to violence and there is need of positive thinking to end the violence. Hegemony isn't acceptable in any form," he asserted. |
