Folk traditions of different states highlighted

Jammu, May 03: Glimpses from culture and folk tradition of 12 states across the country was the major attraction at the shoba yatra taken out through various bazaars and streets of the City.
While the artistes from Uttranchal presented folk dance of their state, those from Assam presented Bihu dance and the performers from Haryana danced to the tunes of Nagras and performed kirtan. Artistes from Punjab displayed famous Gatka as well as gave bagpiper band presentation and the performers from Uttar Pradesh presented ‘mayur dance’.
Other presentations at the shoba yatra that enthralled the devotees and spectators at various localities and bazaars of the city included Manipuri dance, puppet show by Rajsthani artists, narsingha dance by artistes from Himachal, royal band from Rajasthan, adiwasi dance by Uttrakhand.
The shoba yatra that started from Bhagwan Parshuram Janam Utasv Shoba Yatra Samiti office at Panjthirthi culminated at the same place after passing through Mubarak Mandi, Jain Bazar, Link Road, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Residency Road, Raghunath Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, Moti Bazar and Pacca Danga.
The one-and-a-half kilometer long shoba yatra was decorated through lights and sound system by Kamal Light ands Sound System Amritsar. A local devotee Sanjay Jamwal who was on fast for last one month also participated in the jhanki and broke his fast only after it was over in the evening.
Other attractions in the shoba yatra were a replica of Hanuman Mandir Purani Mandi and a Shani dev’s idol.
The samiti has expressed its gratitude towards artists from Bengal who for the last more than three months was busy preparing tableaus for the shoba yatra.
The samiti has also announced that on May 5 on the occasion Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti, Puja and Havana would be organised at the Samiti office from 11 am to 12 noon.
