Anhad organizing J&K arts festival from May 5

JAMMU, Apr 3: Anhad is bringing to Jammu its first program in the form of Jammu and Kashmir Arts Festival from May 5-7, 2011, every evening from 5 to 8 pm at General Zorawar Auditorium Complex in the University of Jammu. Festival celebrates the cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Opening of Exhibition- The exhibition' Celebrating Creativity' is conceived as a very non conventional exhibition. It showcases works of professional photographers, painters, sculptors and artisans- an amalgam of various streams of cultural practices. Exhibition celebrates creativity of ordinary people.
It emphasizes that our cultural practices are very diverse but there is a need for their co-existence. Art practices cannot be exclusive, they are not homogeneous. Culture is constantly evolving, and it is the coming together of various streams which gives birth to creativity and enriches our composite culture.
Participating painters, sculptors, photographers include Adnan Qureshi, Anzar iqbal, Bishambar, Bushan Kesar, Faisal Khan, Faisal Rafiq, Govind Kaur, Harshwardan, Ilyas Wali, Jagpal Singh, KK Gandhi, Majid Pandit, Milind Sharma, Mir Muneeb, Rakesh Kumar, Ravinder Jamwal , Rohit Verma, Sahir Raza, Showkat Shafi, Suman Gupta, Umer Ganie, Vijay Saraf and Vikas Khajuria
The first day will begin with a panel discussion on relevance of celebrating cultural diversity in our times. Shabbir Mujahid, Director DD, Jammu, Anuradha Bhasin, Kashmir Times, Vijay Bakaya, Former Chief Secretary, J & K and Varun Sahni, VC of Jammu University will participate in the panel discussion.
Inaugural Performance of Music will be in the form of a Jugal bandi where musicians from Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh will participate. Kashmir- Harmonium -Sonaullah Rashi, Rubab- Ghulam Nabi Rather, Sarangi- Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, Sarangi 2-Ghulam Mohammad, Nout-Mohd. Ashraf, Tumbak-Gulzar Ahmad
