Pakistan not interested in Kashmir resolution: Rehman | ‘Gandhi called Jinnah Quaid-e-Azam’ | | ET Report Jammu, May 3: Pakistan wants to put Kashmir on hold. She is not serious about resolving the long pending dispute. This was stated by Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehmam who heads the Pakistan Parliamentary Kashmir committee and Jamiat-e-ulema-e-Islam. Rehman also said that founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah never said Kashmir was Pakistan's jugular vein. "It was Gandhi who first called Jinnah Quaid-e-Azam", he said. Rehman made this statement at Helsinki (Finland) while interacting with the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front activists. He said: "Putting Kashmir on hold is in the best interests of Pakistan at least for the time being. If it is settled now, people will opt for independent Kashmir." Rehman said Pakistan needed Kashmir. "Some of our interests are linked to Kashmir", he said. "We are interested in keeping the issue alive. Resolution is not on our minds for the time being", he added. The cleric said Jinnah has never said Kashmir was the jugular vein of Pakistan. "I asked Majid Nizami about it. He told me Mumtaz Daulatana had made a mention of it. When I contacted Daulatana she said Fatima Jinnah had told her. This has no base as Fatima Jinnah has not mentioned it in her book", he said. Rehman, it may be mentioned, sought extensive research on Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the Pakistan National Assembly last year. According to him many statements attributed to Jinnah are false. The leader of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam is the first Pakistani to say that Pakistan was not interested in Kashmir resolution. He also is the first man from Pakistan to deny Kashmir was Pakistan's jugular vein. |
