Wani determined to make police people friendly | ‘Zero tolerance on human rights violations’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 4 (KNS): The Minister of state for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, Wednesday, said that government will take every step to make police and security forces more people friendly and maintained that there would be zero tolerance on human rights violations. In an interview with KNS, Wani said, “To make police and forces more people friendly grievances of the people are being monitored by district level officers and later action is being taken. During my recent interactions with civil society members in several parts of the state, I got the feedback and we are working accordingly.” Wani who last week took over as MoS Home, said, “No human rights violation would be tolerated and any one found guilty would be punished.” He said that police is part of the society and blaming them for every wrongdoing was not justified. “Police is part of our society. It is wrong to make false allegations against the police and forces.” The new MoS Home said that complaints against police and the forces have drastically come down compared to last year. “There is a drastic decrease in the number of complaints against police and forces this year compared to last year. Wani revealed that he will submit a report to the Chief Minister soon based on his recent interactions with people across the state. “I visited several areas and reviewed security situation and got the feedback from officers and general public. Based on that I will submit a report to the Chief Minister.” He also said that his ministry will look beyond policing. “Home Ministry isn’t only about policing but social evils have also to be looked into. Fire and Emergency services have to be made more effective.” Asked to comment about re-arrests after courts quash PSA of detainees, he said, “If parents and respectable citizens of the area give guarantee that these people will not indulge in such activities again, we might consider their release.” On reports of attendance of those who are released by the courts to police stations, Wani said, “It is not generalized but done only in cases where it is necessary. It is a temporary phase for marinating law and order.” He said that government will soon hold recruitment rallies in far flung areas of the state to absorb unemployed youth in the police force.
