| Sappers celebrate 226th Corps Day | | | JAMMU NOV-18 The Corps of Engineers popularly known as the ‘Sappers’ celebrated its 226th Corps Day at the Northern Command Headquarters at Udhampur today. In his message, Lt Gen Deepak Kapoor GOC-in-C Northern Command extended his greetings to all ranks and families of the Corps. The spirit of the Sappers is reflected in their motto ‘SARVATRA’ implying that the Sapper is available for any task, anywhere, any time, during peace and war. In the Northern Command, the Corps of Engineers have enormous responsibilities. Apart from involvement in counter terrorism, clearing improvised explosive devices and taking part in the operation, the Sappers is also involved in construction and maintaining habitats for the troops in difficult terrains and adverse climate in areas of Kashmir and Ladakh including Saichen Glacier. The Sappers also contributes in the task of nation building through the Border Roads Organization and Military Engineering Service and has a record of outstanding contribution in all operations and has proved its mettle both in war and peace. The Engineering Regiment located at Udhampur has successfully completed a cycling expedition covering about 1400 KM from Udhampur-Mandi, Khoksar, Stingri Sarchu, Leh, Kargil Drass Sonamarg and back to Udhampur during last month.
