Centre sanctions Rs 43 crore for upgradation of hospitals in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: Centre government has sanctioned 43 crore rupees for repair of the associate hospitals of Government Medical Colleges in Jammu and Srinagar. Official source said that resources are mobilized to start work next fiscal year and the centre has sanctioned crore of rupees for the same project. Sources said that every year routine repairs of assets of Medical Colleges including associated hospitals Jammu /Srinagar are carried out of Plan and Non-Plan funds allocated every year. He disclosed that during 2010-11 Rs. 3.25 crores and Rs. 1.09 crore were made available for Medical Colleges and associated hospitals Jammu and Srinagar respectively for the said purpose. It is pertinent to mention here that there is a great need to renovate these hospitals as the same is long overdue. In many departments of hospitals, there is shortage of infrastructure beside shortage of space to accommodate the patients coming from different parts of the state for treatment, due to which two or three patients have to lie on one bed. “We have been seeing funds for repair since long but to no avail. Administration has so far failed to respond,” said an official seeking anonymity. “Whenever we come for the treatment in hospital, we have to face problems. Moreover, toilets are also not properly cleaned” said a patient Kavita Kumari. “As soon as paper work is completed, department will start working on it soon. J&K government is implementing an ambitious Rs 200 crore Hospital upgradation project since last three years under the Prime Ministers Swasthya Surakshya Yojana to elevate the two hospitals to the level of best medical institutes in the country.
