Rethinking in separatist camp as world opinion goes against terrorism, radical forces | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 4: With the elimination of mastermind of world terrorism Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan on May 2, there is a rethinking among the separatist camps in Kashmir whether to abandon support base to terrorists or not. According to sources the moderate factions in the Hurriyat have called for a rethinking whether to justify the acts of terrorists or condemn them openly in view of the world opinion going against the terrorism and killing of mastermind of world terrorism. The growing resentment in US the dubious role of Pakistan in elimination of terrorism has also come for discussion among the separatist factions in Valley. And in view of the world opinion going against the Pakistan also some senior separatist leaders have gone to the extent of saying that any more dependence on Pakistan for continuance of ongoing freedom movement in Valley will prove suicidal. Sources said some senior leaders of Hurriyat have asked its leadership to have an introspection on its role in view of the happenings all round and the developments taking place in Muslim countries all over the world. Some of the leaders have gone to the extent saying that the people have been put to lot of trouble during over 21 year long turmoil and state has been pushed 50 years back. Sources said that these leaders have also criticized the role of Hurriyat hardliner by associating Osama with Islam saying the killers of innocent people are neither Jehadis nor have such people any place in Islam. Some Muslim clerks have also openly criticized the people who associate Osama and his Alqaida with Islam, sources added. Sources said the common Kashmiri has not also shown any resentment against the killing as was done during the past as the people in Valley are now totally fed up with terror and terrorism. They want that gun culture should be eliminated once for all so that the people can lead a happy and normal life, sources added. Sources said though some radical groups are still active in Valley who are trying to exploit the situation to their advantage but the common Kashmiri is not interested in associating himself with these elements. This is the main reason that during the ongoing Panchayat elections about 80 percent people exercised their franchise to see that the state is put back on rails and its shattered economy is revived again. Sources said that radical groups are however trying to make their presence felt in Valley and they are trying to regain their control again by issuing posters and fatwas to the people. But the common Kashmiri is not bothered for them any more now and instead he wants to contribute whatever he can for the development of the state, sources added. To make their presence felt and to show that they still rule the roost in Valley these radical forces have over a day back pasted posters in Kashmir University and in Hazratbal and its adjoining areas of Srinagar warning against the organizing of musical concert of Jagjit Singh in the Univeristy campus by terming it Un Islamic. However the moderate faction of Hurriyat and the members of civil society and some main stream political organizations have voiced their concern about such happenings and suggested that such radicals be dealt seriously. Sources said some leaders of moderate faction of Hurriyat have suggested for fighting an amicable solution to the issue. They have strongly advocated for holding a dialogue with Union Government on the issue with a positive approach. ``There is no room for rigidity and egos in democracy’’ one separatist leader has informed the senior members of conglomerate while asking them to give their rigid stand on talks. He said in democracy the views are not thrusted upon the people but their suggestions are accommodated and respected and in case of the Kashmir situation which is facing turmoil for over last over 21 years this formula needs to be taken care of.
