Car manufactures selling illegal material to face stern action | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 05-Following the raid on manufacturers of Car Accessories involved in selling illegal car material by the Transport Department and Traffic Police, Inspector General of Police, Traffic Mr. Hemant Kumar Lohia today had a meeting at Police Control Room with the associates of the Association of J&K, Car Accessories Shop Union. The meeting discussed future course of action against the owners of these car accessories that have violated the provisions of Motor Vehicles Rules which adds that no person or firm shall deal in the business of Registration of Number Plates, unless he or it is registered as a “Number Plate Dealer” by the concerned Registering Authority.” Deputy Transport Commissioner, Mr. Bhumesh Sharma and Assistant Transport Commissioner, Mr. Atam Dev Singh was also present in the meeting. All the owners and manufacturers of car accessories are directed to submit an affidavit to the Secretary Empowered Standing Committee, Mr. Bhumesh Sharma, mentioning that no black film light or dark shall be tinted to any vehicle by these dealers as there is no provision under the Act or the Rules which contemplates the use of the films on glass of the vehicle. The glasses which are normally known as tinted glasses cannot be called tinted glasses by virtue of use of films but the manufacturer has to produce such glasses which are required to pass the test/inspection by the competent authorities/technical committees constituted in accordance with the law, he added. The Chairman directed the plate manufacturers/ dealers to register themselves to the concerning Registering Authorities and collect photo copy of R/C, self attested proof of ID before handing over a number plate to the consumer. They were also warned not to sell the pressure horns, multi-toned horns giving a succession of different tones or with any other sound producing device giving an unduly harsh, shrill loud or alarming noise and halogen lights. They were also directed that they will work only within their own premises/ shops not disturbing the common pedestarians. Under Motor Vehicles Rules 1991, a fine up to a tune of Rs 20,000 shall be imposed to any person found dealing with the business of registration number plates unauthorized or without license.
