| 8-day-old male baby among 4 killed in van mishap, 2 hurt | | |
JAMMU, May 05: Four persons, including a couple and their eight-day-old male baby, were today killed and two others wounded when a Maruti van, which was carrying them, skidded off the road
and fell into a deep gorge near Doda.
Monika Devi gave birth to a male baby in Doda district hospital about eight days back.
After she was discharged from hospital this afternoon, Monika's husband Vipan Kumar hired a Maruti van (JK06/2478) for their residence at Kundriyan, police sources said.
Sources said while driver Yasir Hussain was negotiating a sharp curve, he lost control over the vehicle near Kundriyan as a result of which it plunged into a deep gorge at about 5.30 pm.
Vipan, Monika, their baby and Yasir were killed on the spot, while Khem Devi and Faqir Chand, son of Manik Chand, survived with critical injuries.
The dead and the injured were later taken out from the gorge by police with the help of locals.
The injured were admitted to the Doda district hospital and later referred to the GMC hospital here.
Police had registered a case in this connection.
