Mir reviews functioning of Agriculture Deptt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, may 6: Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Hussain Mir today reviewed the functioning of agriculture department at a meeting held at Krishi Bhavan, Directorate of Agriculture Jammu here today. Director Agriculture production, Ajay Khajuria, Chief Agriculture Officers of Jammu division and other concerned officers attended the meeting. Mir took stock of district-wise performance and achievements and asked the officers to further gear up their men and machinery to ensure better services like deep bore wells, shallow bore wells and community irrigation facilities, seed and fertilizers to the farmers. During the meeting, the Director apprised the Minister that the Department is fully prepared for kharif season 2011. He said that the availability of seeds and fertilizers is sufficient in all districts of Jammu division to meet the requirements of the farmers. Khajuria also disclosed that during the last year 1586 irrigation pumps set have been distributed on subsidized rates among the farmers besides providing 41.453 lakh qtls. of wheat seeds. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed upon the Agriculture Department for intensifying awareness camps to educate the people about the importance and scope of Mushroom cultivation, bee-keeping, Water-harvesting and demonstration of plots. It was disclosed in the meeting, that in Rajouri district 96 licences have been issued for fertilizer dealers besides maize seed is provided to the farmers on 50% subsidized rates in Poonch district. Mir issued the instructions to all Chief Agriculture Officers to construct/install bore wells in each block of the district especially in tail end. He asked the officers to maintain a close liaison and work with dedication so that people could not face any problem. He said that the Government has launched various schemes for uplift of the people and he directed the officers to make the people aware about the schemes so that they adopt schemes like Mushroom, be-keeping in addition to routine cultivation. Among others Joint Director (Inputs), V.K. Bakshi, Joint Director (Extension), all Chief Agriculture Officers of Jammu division and section heads of the Department attended the meeting.
