| Political parties intensify activities in State | | | Jammu, Nov 19 Even as the next Assembly polls are to be held in October 2008 and there is no other elections around, a sudden momentum in activities of two major political parties is being witnessed during the past few days. A series of mass contact programmes is being organized by ruling major coalition partner Congress and main opposition National Congress, giving the impression as of season of electioneering in the State Both Congress and NC have organized around a dozen big public rallies during the past fortnight, which were addressed by senior most leaders of these parties. While Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was the obvious star of Congress rallies, former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah are taking care of the NC gatherings. There is no need to mention that each of them are trying to put across their point by boasting of their achievements during their respective term in the government and pointing out each others’ failure. Leaders of ruling Congress are busy in listing achievements of Azad Government and explaining that they have almost fulfilled promises made at the time of 2002 Assembly elections to people of J&K. One such big rally was organized today at Mini Stadium in Parade Ground, which was be addressed, by Azad and other top leaders of the party. On the other hand, NC has also intensified attacks on the coalition Government and its main target is People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its `Self Rule’ formula. Though the PDP has not yet started any such drive as its leader Mufti Mohd Sayeed is abroad in connection with campaign for `self rule’, observes believe that a momentum in mass contact programme by the party is likely to be started very soon. The State Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), which elected its new president, only last week, is also chalking out a vigorous programme for re-gaining the support of masses which it lost due to wrong and superfluous policies of the previous body |
