HC decides controversy over Inspectors' appointment in sports category | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 06: A high court division bench of acting Chief Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, in a LPA filed by the state against the April 30, 2001, judgment of writ court, decided the controversy which led to third round of litigation in which contesting respondents' grievances were yet to be redressed. The contesting respondents -- Paramijit Singh Malhotra, Ranjit Singh Chib and Ajay Sharma -- came to be appointed as Sub-Inspectors of police in open category. According to them, they were eligible for appointment under sports quota as per SRO 82 of 1992 which provided for appointment to the post of police Inspector. They were appointed in 1986 as SIs. Sanjay Sharma was also appointed police SI in 1992 and later appointed as Inspector in sports category. After 18 years of litigations, the division bench disposed of the state LPA and said the single bench order stood confirmed in so far it related to the private respondents Paramjit Singh Malhotra and Ranjeet Singh. The court, however, directed Ajay Sharma to collect his credentials as listed out in the annexure and forwarded the same to J&K sports council for its report if he fell under the category of outstanding sportsman to get the benefits as were applicable to Paramjit and
Ranjeet, or otherwise maintain the original position as was done at
the time of his initial appointment.
