Sham inaugurates Blood Donation camp at JU

Jammu, may 6: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham
Lal Sharma, today inaugurated a blood donation camp at Jammu
University organized by National Students Union of India (NSUI) & Law
School in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services and
Medical College, Jammu.
Director Health Services, Jammu, Ashok Sharma, Director NRHM, Yashpaul
Sharma, Administrator Medical College Jammu, senior officers of
concerned department and representatives of various organizations were
also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham said that the decreasing sex ratio in
the country is alarming and those support female foeticide be treated
as murderers and be brought to the book. He said that female foeticite
is a slur on the present day society and this menace if not checked
will have a devastating impact on the sex ratio.
He hoped that the dignitaries present spread the message of curbing
the female foeticide thus help promoting balanced sex ratio. The need
is to organize state level seminars to focus on raising awareness to
the fact of the sex selective foeticide and the issue be dealt through
medical ethics and strong campaign, he added.
He said the government has purchased full fledged blood donation van
with modern facilities
The Minister said that recent census report showing substantial
decrease in State’s male-female sex ratio is an eye opener and time
has come to strictly implement the PNDT Act. He asked the people
particularly youths to extend their cooperation in this regard.
Appreciating the efforts of NSUI and Law school for organizing such
type of blood donation camps, the Minister said that the government is
keen to promote this type of practice particularly in the field of
healthcare.
He said that government wants massive participation of private health
institutions in providing better healthcare services and supplement
government efforts in this regard. He hoped that NSUI and other such
organizations will expand their activities in future also with added
zeal and dedication. He appealed the youth to come forward and donate
blood to save precious lives.
