| PDF worker among 2 civilians killed | | Serial blasts on Pulwama road; no casualty | | Srinagar, Nov 19 Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be militants, killed two civilians at Natnusa area of Kupwara in North Kashmir, here late last night, while militants triggered three Improvised Explosive Devices place along Pulwama-Srinagar Road, during the wee hours on Sunday. Sources said that a group of four unidentified gunmen believed to be the militants entered into the house of a Peoples Democratic Front activist Muhammad Sultan Ganai in Natnusa village of Kupwara and asked the family members to serve them meals. After taking meals the suspected militants abducted the house owner, Sultan, with them. Though the family members tried to stop the armed men, they were assured that he would be sent back. However, the abducted villager, sources added, was shot dead by the gunmen a few meters away from his house. His bullet ridden body was recovered by the local villagers, during the wee hours today. It was reliably learnt that after killing Sultan, the same group struck at the house of another person Manzoor Ahmad Mir and dragged him out of his house. The unidentified gunmen pumped at least three bullets in the chest of Manzoor, from a point blank range, leading to his on the spot death. According to the locals, the gunmen were fully armed and wearing masks to hide their identity. “They were armed but the identification was not ascertained as they did not talk much” a local resident said. According to the villagers the gunmen, who were four in number, later caught hold of a villager Bashir Ahmad and tied him with ropes. They threatened him that he would also be killed like Sultan and Manzoor, who according to them were police informers. On intervention of the villagers they left Bashir and escaped from the village. The local residents today hold a strong protest demonstration in the village and demanded immediate arrest of the gunmen responsible for the killing. “No one from army camp which is barely one kilometer away from the village came to the rescue of the villagers” a local resident said alleging that even the police did not bothered to come to the rescue of the people even after they heard their cries . People protested and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in killing of the villagers; they also blocked the road for several hours. SSP Kupwara visited the village and assured them that those involved in the killings would be arrested. A case has been registered in this regard. SSP Kupwara said that a manhunt has been launched to track down the militants responsible for the killing. “The only thing we know at this stage is that the militants belong to Harkat-ul-Mujhideen”, he added. Meanwhile Militants triggered three mine blasts along Srinagar-Pulwama road. However there is no report of loss of life. Sources said that security forces launched a man hunt after cordoning the area to nab the militants. No arrest has been made till the last reports came here. |
