| Discredited Islamabad rubbishes 26/11, says Indian demand for action "outdated" | | Time To Act | | Rustam
JAMMU, May 6: Cat is out of the bag. The discredited Pakistan has rubbished the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, which consumed more than 160 innocent lives, including the lives of half a dozen Americans, and termed the Indian demand for action against the killers, including Hafiz Saeed of Lashkar-e-Toiba/Jammat-ud-Dawa, as "outdated." This was the Pakistani response to the statement issued by the Union Home Ministry on May 2. The statement of Union Home Ministry read like this: "We once again call upon the Government of Pakistan to arrest the persons whose names have been handed over to the Interior Minister of Pakistan as well as provide voice samples of certain persons who are suspected to be among the controllers and handlers of the terrorists".
Who dismissed the Indian demand for action against the perpetrators of 26/11 as "outdated"? The Pakistani Foreign Secretary, Salman Bashir, made these outrageous remarks at Islamabad on Thursday while talking to media persons. He didn't stop there. He also warned India that any move on its part to launch covert operations inside Pakistan or repeat what the United States did at Abbotabad on May 2 would mean a catastrophe for India. "Any Abbottabad-like operation would lead to a terrible catastrophe…Indian establishment and armed forces are trying to subvert the agenda of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by making statements, which are a matter of concern. Any country that attempts to 'mimic' the unilateral act of the US will find it has made a basic miscalculation," Bashir, in fact, said. Pakistan's Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani the same day also made an identical statement. He, inter-alia, said: "He would not tolerate a repeat of the American covert operation that killed Osama bin Laden."
The message from Islamabad is loud and clear: Pakistan will not take any action whatever against those who were involved in the Mumbai terror attacks and it will retaliate if New Delhi acts like the Americans did to locate, catch and kill Osama. In other words, Islamabad has asked India to forget 26/11 and behave and warned New Delhi of dangerous consequences in case it takes recourse to coercive diplomacy or it goes in for surgical operations to catch and kill the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks.
It was hoped that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his so-called think tanks would ultimately wake up and give appropriate response to Islamabad. But it did not happen. Chicken-hearted and ambivalent as they were, the Manmohan Singh administration, which is involved neck-deep in corruption and has been at the receiving end, particularly since 2009, disappointed the nation by making a statement that only indicated that it didn't find anything wrong or provocative in what Islamabad said. It pretended that nothing has happened. It simply described the Pakistani fulminations as over-reaction and declared that the dialogue process with Islamabad would continue, as India is determined to resolve all the outstanding issues between the two countries, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
It appears the Manmohan Singh administration is all out to bail out Islamabad and allow Pakistan to insult the victims of 26/11. In fact, it has already bailed out Pakistan and insulted the victims of 26/11 by giving a meek response to the Pakistan's outrageous, provocative and threatening response. His administration has left none in any doubt that it has neither the capacity nor the required will to bring to justice the perpetrators of 26/11 and take on Pakistan, which has become the most conducive place for terrorists to hide in and launch not just anti-India operations, but also to export terrorism into other countries of the world. This is utterly unacceptable. It must behave as the Americans behave. If the United States could kill Osama deep inside Pakistan, why can't India nab and bring to justice Dawood Abrahim, the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts; Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks' and similar others, including Syed Salah-ud-Din of Hizbul Mujahideen, whom Islamabad has given shelter or with whom Islamabad has been flirting since years in order to bleed and break-India? It's time for New Delhi to act and act decisively. The nation wants Manmohan Singh to act. |
