Govt fully committed to establish identity of Sarpanchs, panches: Chib

JAMMU, MAY 07- Minister for Medical Education and Youth services and sports Minister, R S Chib today said that the Government was committed to establish a vibrant three tier Panchayati Raj System to enable the devolution of power at the grass root level.
The Minister was interacting with the newly elected Sarpanches of tehsil R. S. Pura during an introductory meeting.
MLA R. S. Pura Prof. Gharu Ram Bhagat, Additional Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. D. R. Sharma, SDM R. S. Pura, Mr. A. K. Khajuria, Tehsildars and all the sectoral officers of various departments were present on the occasion.
The Minister said that the Coalition Government, headed by Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, was determined to transfer powers to the common people and strengthen the basic democratic institutions, adding that this would ensure need based and balanced development of the rural areas with the larger participation of the locals. He said that Government was contemplating to amend laws related to the Panchayati Raj to pave way for the sizeable share to the women folk in the representation.

The functions to be transferred to the Grameen Panchayats, Block Development Councils and District Planning and Development Boards, in the light of 73 and 74 amendment, were also discussed in detail with the elected Sarpanch.
The Minister hoped that the elected members would take keen interest in the development of their respective Panchyatas, besides assuming a supervisory role to oversee the working of vital departments like, health, education and other services.
The elected Sarpanch putforth their demands which include provision for drinking water, sufficient chair, benches and Chowkidars or Mali at every Panchayat Ghar. The Minister gave patient hearing to them and assured that possible infrastructure will be made available at the Panchayat Ghars.
