Bindia retains sub-junior title in sport climbing | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 07: Bindia Sharma, a national climber, today retained the sub-junior girls’ title in the Udhampur District Sport Climbing Championship being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here.
Luxmi Devi and Rupali Verma clinched the second and third position respectively in the same age group.
In the meantime, eight climbers, led by defending champion, Bhanu Partap Singh, have entered into the final round of sub-junior boys group. Competitions in the other categories were also in progress.
Earlier, chief guest of the event, Home Secretary, J&K, BR Sharma declared open the two-day competition. He along with guest of honour, Ruby Sharma, also presented medals to the winners of the Jammu District Sport climbing competition which held in he recent past at the same venue.
Speaking to the gathering of young climbers from Udhampur and those medal winners from Jammu district, Sharma lauded the efforts of the Mountaineering Association of J&K in regularly conducting the five district competitions at Jammu because of lack of climbing infrastructure in other districts.
He also appreciated the role of private institutions of other districts especially Udhampur in cooperating with the Association for the smooth conduct and promotion of game in the state.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Ram Khajuria, general secretary of the Association, Ram Singh and Sajad Haider, both Everesters, Rahul Sharma, Arti Sharma, Poja Datta,Vishav Mohan Sharma, Fazal Ahmad, Harjot Kour, an international Sport climber and Sonam Sidharth.
